The Heating & Air Conditioning program at Drake State examines the principles of heating and cooling air in controlled situations. The knowledge and applications of electricity and refrigerants are taught through problem-solving techniques to enable students to diagnose malfunctions and service/repair residential, commercial, and industrial systems. The Heating & Air Conditioning curriculum is designed to help students prepare for employment in the field of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

Wallace State Community College

Program Description

Gadsden State Community College

Program Description

For the A.A.S. Degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, the student must complete a minimum of 76 credit hours – a minimum of 61 in technical courses and a minimum of 15 in general education courses – all of which must be approved by the advisor. A maximum of 9 credit hours of technical electives may be selected from any approved area of Engineering Technology programs with prior written approval from the student’s major advisor. Technical courses may vary to meet student needs and to provide options. Admission Requirement: High school diploma or GED.

Bevill State Community College

Program Description

Heating and Air-Conditioning Systems control the temperature, humidity, and total air quality in residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings. By providing a climate-controlled environment, refrigeration systems make it possible to store and transport food, medicine, and other perishable items. Heating, Air-conditioning, and Refrigeration Technicians install, maintain, and repair such systems. Because heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems often are referred to as HVACR systems, these workers also may be called HVACR technicians. The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program at Bevill State is designed to teach basic theories and provide a working knowledge of air conditioning and heating for both comfort and environmental considerations. Graduates will be able to enter the fields of planning, installing, operating, and maintaining all types of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. The program is approved by the Alabama Board of Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration for the Alabama Contractor’s License Exam.
