The Mt. SAC Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program prepares students for a high paying career in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration through a two-year associate of science degree or a certificate that leads to occupations in design, manufacturing, operations, sales, distribution, installation, maintenance and repair.
Students gain valuable classroom knowledge and hands-on experience in troubleshooting refrigerant handling, welding, mechanical and electrical operation, as well as building automation. Classes are offered days and evenings and are structured to give students the opportunity to seek industry employment in as little as one academic year. For students requiring additional experience, a work-study component is also offered.

Program Description
Program options include certificate programs and an associate in science degree. Depending on the program and the number of units taken each semester, completing a certificate program can take as little as one to two semesters and completing the associate of science degree program can take about two years. The program cost is $46 per unit for California residents, not including books, fees, and supplies. Units vary by course, but the average is three units per course. Unit fees for the 12-unit certificate would be $552, ranging up to the 60-unit associate degree, which would be $2,760. Most students also qualify for some form of financial aid.

Program Description
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program prepares students for employment in the field and provides upgrade opportunities for currently employed personnel. By completing the degree or certificate requirements, the student will gain proficiency in service, troubleshooting, and installation of residential, commercial, and industrial heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
Students will learn to read wiring diagram, interpret the Uniform Mechanical Code, diagnose control circuits, operate test equipment, and service pneumatic and electronic controls. Competencies will be assessed in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency certificate criteria. Students completing the program may expect to enter industry as an advanced apprentice or entry-level heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technician.

Do you want to use your mechanical aptitude and love of problem-solving to serve the personal climate comfort of others? IOT can prepare you to provide relief from extreme weather elements in all seasons through career training as an HVAC technician.
This is a NEW HYBRID program! Hybrid education is a combination of convenient online learning and face-to-face classroom and lab experiences. The IOT hybrid programs were created to provide hands-on in-person training and a flexible schedule for students.
IOT’s Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program provides hands-on training for students in the theories, techniques, and practices involved in the HVAC field. Students will learn to install, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC system installations and will be conversant with industry standards. Students are also prepared to complete the EPA Universal certification process, which is required for graduation.

Program Description
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, a constantly changing program designed to satisfy the mechanically oriented person. Introducing entry level skills in this rapidly growing service industry. A Student may specialize in air conditioning, refrigeration, or both (recommended.) The program is built on the block principle with refrigeration divided into domestic and commercial, and air conditioning divided into residential and commercial systems. Students test and repair actual equipment and built-up trainers. Field trips are taken, familiarizing students with actual application.
When you complete the program, you will have experience installing, maintaining and repairing equipment used in refrigeration and/or air conditioning. You will be able to interpret schematics to determine the proper operation of equipment, calculate loads, lay out air handling systems and make necessary repairs using specialty tools and equipment.
This program also strives to prepare you for the federally-mandated EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification tests.
A broad range of courses, from Basic Refrigeration Systems (ACRV 112) to Commercial Air Conditioning Controls (ACRV 222) are taught in the college’s state-of-the-art Technology Building, which houses some of the newest equipment from various manufacturers, including an array of commercial ice machines from Manitowoc Equipment Works, Inc.
Manitowoc is in a cooperative venture with the college to provide industry field training seminars for future and present Manitowoc technicians at AVC.
Additionally, Work Experience (ACRV 199) allows you to work side-by-side with an in-house maintenance crew or ride along with local contractors on service calls. This offers you the chance to meet people in the industry—employers, employees and independent contractors. You will have the opportunity to see several work environments in the field and gain on-site training.

This program also introduces students to more complex systems typical to industrial refrigeration and ice machines. To Achieve the Associate of Science Upon completion of graduation requirements and the required degree courses with at least a ‘C’ grade in each course, the student will be awarded a HVAC Technology Associate of Science degree.
