It's a fast-paced program that covers sheet metal application, electrical troubleshooting, the refrigeration cycle, and more. Techs must follow government regulations for refrigerants, so we cover that, too. Our program is the only one in Iowa fully accredited by HVAC Excellence. Graduate with a diploma and ready to ace industry competency exams.

Des Moines Area Community College
Program Description
A 2-year up-to-date fully-accredited program for learning Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Conveniently located near I-35 just North of Des Moines, Iowa, in Building 20, on the Des Moines Area Community College, Ankeny Campus.
The DMACC Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology Degree program provides the theory, knowledge, and skills of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation equipment for systems in residential and light commercial structures. Students in air conditioning and refrigeration are taught in the classroom and laboratory on models and equipment to prepare the student for satisfactory entrance and advancement in the HVAC-R field.
By completing the first three terms a student can receive a diploma. An AAS degree will be awarded upon completion of all five terms.

The Heating and Air Conditioning program prepares you for an entry-level career installing, maintaining, and repairing residential and commercial heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. You will become proficient in the theory and processes of electric, boiler, solar, and fossil fuel heat systems, as well as air cooling and refrigeration equipment. Also gain knowledge and skills in:
Electricity and electronic controls
Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
Air quality, moisture, and temperature control
Sheet metal fabrication and installation
