Program Description
At Johnson County Community College, HVAC studies involve hands-on experiences that prepare you to go out into the community and have a fulfilling career in the industry.
What Will I Learn About HVAC at JCCC?
Work on actual HVAC equipment while pursuing your associate degree or certification. JCCC offers the only HVAC program in Kansas to be accredited by the Partnership for Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation (PAHRA). Our HVAC program arms you with basic job skills needed to service and maintain residential heating and air conditioning equipment.
At the end of your study, you will be prepared to take the Environmental Protection Agency’s Refrigerant Management exam and receive an EPA Refrigerant Management license. You also will be eligible for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour General Industry Health and Safety training certification.
As an HVAC student, you will start by studying the HVAC basics, while gaining hands-on experience in the lab. Throughout the coursework, you will learn:

JCCC provides two paths for studying HVAC. Both programs prepare students for successful careers in the HVAC trade. You can choose from the following:
Associate of Applied Science in HVAC Technology: If you choose to earn your associate degree, you will take HVAC courses and electives, composition and business mathematics. You will gain hands-on practice working on HVAC equipment. This two-year program will prepare you for a rewarding career as an HVAC technician.
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technology Certificate: In the one-year certificate program, HVAC students will study basic HVAC principles and gain real-world experience in the lab. After completing the program hours, you will be prepared to take a certification exam.

Kansas City Kansas Community College
Program Description
HVAC training is comprised of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. Fundamentals are emphasized, along with specific studies in central and room systems. Silver brazing, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, and sheet metal techniques are also practiced. The program is approved for EPA and R-401A refrigerant certification.

Manhattan Area Technical College
Program Description
The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program at Manhattan Tech is designed to prepare mechanics and apprentices for entry-level employment in a wide range of construction, maintenance, and service positions in business and industry. The program prepares students to install, service, and repair refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The program provides instruction in:
Residential air conditioning
Commercial air conditioning
Heating systems
Commercial refrigeration
Students will be E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency) 608 and OSHA 10 certified.
This program aligns with the Kansas Board of Regents curriculum.

Program Description
At Salina Tech, students learn to do just that with hands-on experience with a wide range of both new and legacy equipment including, furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, reach-in and walk-in coolers, ice machines and sheet metal equipment. Students will take a wide range of classes ranging from HVAC fundamentals and safety, to compressor controls and troubleshooting.
Students who graduate from this program go on to pursue careers in a number of different areas. Although many go on to work in the commercial and/or residential HVAC sector where the average salary can range anywhere from $40,000 to $45,000, some go on to start their own HVAC business and if successful, their annual income can be much higher.
From installation and repair, to compliance and troubleshooting, in just nine short months with Salina Tech’s HVAC program, students gain the knowledge and skills they need to immediately start earning a great living in the HVAC sector.

Program Description
The HVAC-R program at Seward County Community College is designed to teach the appropriate skills needed for this field. Students train with state-of-the-art equipment and learn techniques to diagnose, repair, and install commercial and residential refrigeration and furnace systems.
HVAC-R students at SCCC learn:
• Residential and commercial refrigeration.
• Basic and related electricity.
• Theory of cooling and heating.
• Blueprint reading.
• Safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.

Washburn Institute of Technology
Program Description
Washburn Tech will give you the knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain heating and cooling systems both in large commercial and residential settings. As emerging technologies hit the marketplace, our graduates are prepared to install and service them. The program operates out of the Midwest Training Center (MTC), a state-of-the-art facility on our main campus. Through partnerships with Trane USA, Snap-On Tools, and the National Coalition of Certification Centers, we train you in the areas of electricity, heating, residential air conditioning, refrigeration, sheet metal fabrication, direct digital controls (DDC) and commercial HVAC applications. You can leave with industry credentialing in the areas of refrigerant handling safety, tool usage and control systems. Foundational skills and principles learned in this program prepare you to work in the commercial and residential HVAC market place. Full-day students can complete the program in two semesters while half-day students can complete in four semesters. Upon completion, you will earn a 43-credit-hour technical certificate and be eligible to complete an associate degree or more advanced degrees at Washburn University.

Program Description
In the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program at WTI, you’ll learn the skills you need to begin a successful career in this field. We offer a blended learning environment. Each course is a combination of on-campus and online experiences. This provides the ideal balance of hands-on activity and convenience. Courses available at Wichita Main, Joplin and Tulsa campuses only. This program prepares graduates to become employable in an entry-level position as a Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician. Students will understand electronic theory and refrigeration cycle principles as they apply to installing and troubleshooting basic problems. The course is taught using a combination of theory and practical applications in a laboratory environment.
