Program Description

Learn HVACR theory and become proficient in the skills necessary to work as a heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration (HVACR) mechanic.

Your course work will include four hands-on laboratory courses in your chosen specialty as you train to build, maintain and repair HVACR systems.

The HVACR Certificate takes one year to complete, so you can advance your skills or be ready for your career faster. Our programs offer a condensed block-time schedule with classes Monday through Thursday starting at 7 a.m. Classes are scheduled back to back to simplify the time schedule and accelerate the program. Each semester, you'll take at least two hands-on laboratory courses in your chosen specialty. All credits earned in this certificate program can be applied toward GRCC's HVACR Associate Degree if you choose to continue your education and advance your career.

Washtenaw Community College

Program Description

Train in state-of-the art facilities: HVAC/R students learn to solve problems they will encounter on the job by diagnosing and fixing real, working equipment during class time.

Work in energy management: In addition to preparing students to become a certified HVAC/R technicians, we also offer an Energy Audit class in which students learn about energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption and how to perform energy audits.

Transfer to a top program: WCC makes it easy for students who want to go on and earn a bachelor's degree. Our program credits transfer to Ferris State University's bachelor of science in HVAC/R, to a bachelor of science in Technology Management at Eastern Michigan University and several other degrees at EMU.

Earn your certification quickly and affordably: You can become fully HVAC/R certified in 2 years or less. Classes are offered at a variety of times during the day and evening. Most HVAC/R students work while taking classes.

Dorsey Schools

Program Description

Students enrolled in our HVAC Systems Technician training program at Dorsey College will have the chance to study maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and the repair of related equipment. What does HVAC mean? HVAC stands for Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning. In this comprehensive program, which provides the opportunity to learn through class work and an externship, students can gain knowledge of the practicalities and technicalities of cooling and heating systems.

The curriculum covers workplace skills and the HVAC basics, including electricity, home heating systems, refrigeration, central heat and air units, as well as residential and commercial systems. Additionally, blueprinting, system design and the now topical environmentally-friendly practices of weatherization and sustainability are taught. Students prepare for EPA Universal Certification. No prior experience in this field is required to enroll in our HVAC Systems Technician training program, just the desire to learn.

Program Description

The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Associate of Applied Science Degree provides an opportunity for students to develop their skills and competencies for entrylevel positions in a variety of related fields. The curriculum focuses on the ability to maintain, install and repair climate control devices in residential, industrial and commercial buildings. The program provides students with training in the layout and design of cooling and heating systems, the use of the latest tools, gauges and testing equipment used in the field, troubleshooting and inspection of equipment. The program prepares students for state and local licensing exams. Students with prior HVAC training and experience may be eligible to waive certain courses
