The Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Technology program is a sequence of courses that prepare you for a career in the air conditioning industry. Virtually, every home and business depend upon some form of essential heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. They provide plenty of work for skilled technicians. You have the option of pursuing either a degree or diploma in Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration fields. The program emphasizes a combination of Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration theory, and practical application necessary for successful employment. GTCC's Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology program is well respected in the industry and is the first program in North Carolina accredited by HVAC Excellence. This ensures that graduates receive a high-quality education that will be valued by future employers.

We partner with the Department of Public Instruction, the North Carolina Community College System, the University of North Carolina System, and many independent colleges and universities, to help eligible high school students begin earning college credit in our HVAC program at no cost to them or their families.

Program Description
Wake Tech's AHR program is designed to provide students with the basic skills to design, install and service air conditioning, heating and refrigeration equipment and is offered with three different degree tracks: Commercial A/C, Building Automation and Commercial Refrigeration. Commercial A/C is for residential and light commercial applications; Building Automation covers building automation controls within the commercial HVAC context; and Commercial Refrigeration specializes in commercial refrigeration systems. Once they graduate, technicians may decide to pursue design work, fabrication, installation or service work in a residential or commercial setting. Demand is great for qualified individuals in this field.

Central Piedmont Community College
Program Description
Our program is also approved for workplace learning opportunities while you are in school — Central Piedmont has an entire department dedicated to connecting students with applicable work based learning opportunities such as cooperative education (co-op), internships, and/or apprenticeships. Instead of attending “class” in a traditional classroom, during a workplace learning course you work with an employer in a position directly related to HVAC for a semester. You will also have the opportunity to join the HVAC/R student club. The HVAC/R club's main goal is assisting members in their pursuit of educational and professional goals. The club promotes ideals of honesty, community service, leadership, critical thinking, and technical skills development in addition to providing many opportunities for networking, skills enhancement, and life-long learning.

Alamance Community College’s Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology program was created to meet the new demands of this changing field. We are preparing skilled graduates to work in residential and light commercial sites. Students studying Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology at ACC train in the Advanced Applied Technology Center. This new facility offers expansive training space and cutting-edge technology, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom through hands-on practice.
Three-degree options are available. Students can pursue the following:
An Associate of Applied Science degree in Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology (approximately two years of study)
An Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology diploma (approximately one year of study)
An Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology certificate (approximately one semester of study)
