Program Description
Technicians from this program are prepared for careers in residential and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment installation and maintenance. These programs offer hands-on training as well as classroom instruction, fully preparing the student for any HVAC career.
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration program at Midlands Technical College is designed to train entry-level technicians. Hands-on experience is combined with theory to provide students with well-balanced preparation for careers that encompass the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of a wide variety of residential and light commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment.
Day classes begin in the fall and spring semesters. Night classes begin in the fall semester only. Only the certificate or diploma courses are offered at night.
Learning experiences for students in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technology program are held in classrooms and workspace in Granby Hall on the Airport Campus.
Students are required to purchase hand tools and personal safety equipment at an approximate cost of $1,050.

Program Description
Graduates of the Basic Air Conditioning and Heating Certificate program may enroll in the Advanced Air Conditioning and Heating Certificate to further develop their skills. The advanced program includes both theory and practical work in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning principles, calculations, the study of electrical components and programmable controls.
Students must successfully complete the Basic Air Conditioning and Heating Certificate or have departmental approval prior to being admitted into the Advanced Air Conditioning and Heating Certificate.
This program is available during the day.
The Advanced Air Conditioning and Heating Certificate is accredited by HVAC/Excellence.

HVAC Associate Degree:
Students will complete a primary specialty in HVAC and minor in a secondary specialty specific to their educational and career goals. Students gain experience repairing HVAC systems, designing heating and AC systems, servicing air conditioning systems, using test equipment and reading blueprints.
Students will be able to:
Demonstrate professional behavior and customer-related business skills as related to the HVAC industry.
Compose and format business documents (e.g., customer tickets, summaries, job reports).
Evacuate, charge and recover refrigerant from Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems.
Calculate residential heat loss and heat gain.
Demonstrate the ability to speak publicly, listen actively, and respond effectively.
HVAC Certificate:

In Piedmont Technical College's Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technology (HVAC) program, you’ll learn to diagnose and repair malfunctions; size, fabricate and install air duct systems; and estimate cooling and heating loads for selection of the most efficient systems for a given building. Program Description
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program offers students the necessary skills for installing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The state-of-the-art labs are equipped with a diverse offering of different HVAC and refrigeration equipment to help the students achieve success. The HVAC program offers day and evening classes to provide students with different options to help fit their schedules. The program is reviewed by an HVAC advisory committee in the Pee Dee region.

Program Description
The Associate in Applied Science with a Major in General Technology with Emphasis in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning degree provides students with the skills necessary for the installation, repair and calibration of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems. Admission to the Associate in Applied Science with a Major in General Technology Emphasis in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning program is open to all students who have met the appropriate prerequisites or have acceptable placement scores. Students must successfully meet all applicable course prerequisites before enrolling in program courses.
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Certificate provides students with those additional skills necessary for the installation, repair and calibration of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems. Admission to the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Certificate is restricted to those students who have an associate degree or higher education in a related technical discipline. The Certificate supplements previous education by providing the student with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary as a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technician.
