Program Description
The Mitchell Technical College Heating and Cooling Technology program is accredited by HVAC Excellence. The program provides students with skills and knowledge in mechanics, electricity and sheet metal. Students also receive extensive training in energy management and environmental controls technology to include renewable energy resources such as geothermal and solar technology. Laboratory time is spent installing and servicing heating and cooling systems, as well as designing and forming sheet metal patterns for ductwork.
Graduates are prepared for an expanding field that includes jobs in sales, service, installation and industrial maintenance for a company or as a self-employed contractor. Some typical jobs include service or installation technician, sales, service trainer, industrial maintenance, supervisor, manufacturer’s representative or business owner.
Students must complete 36 credit-hours and are awarded a diploma. As of 2018, tuition for both programs came to $116 per credit, with additional fees bringing the total cost to between $210 and $225 per credit
Program Description
Your HVAC/R Excellence Accredited coursework in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, focuses on installation, maintenance and repair of building climate systems. Unlike many other HVAC programs, Southeast Technical College's curriculum includes a refrigeration component. Commercial refrigeration equipment is in every grocery store, restaurant and gas station, among numerous other locations. At STC, you will learn how to work on medium- and low-temperature refrigeration equipment including reach-in coolers, prep tables, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers and ice machines.
With your training at Southeast Tech, you also have the opportunity to learn an Employment Ready Certification in Light Commercial Refrigeration through HVAC Excellence.
As of 2018, students could expect to pay $76 per credit in tuition, with the total cost coming out to $240 per credit when other fees are added.
Western Dakota Tech
Program Description
Our HVAC/R program will give you the appropriate mix of soft skills, theory, hands-on experience. We put classroom theory into practice in the lab with simulations and real-life scenarios to give you the skill necessary to be successful in the HVAC/R industry. We use a variety of modern HVAC/R equipment, trainers, simulation software, measuring instruments, and tools. Our program is designed to give you the core competencies employers are looking for. These include troubleshooting, problem-solving, customer service, and professional skills in addition to technical HVAC/R skills. Graduates of our program enter the HVAC/R industry as quality, well-trained entry-level HVAC/R technicians.
The 18-month program requires 61-64 credit hours, and an AAS degree is awarded on completion. The 2018 tuition was $247 per-credit-hour for on-campus classes and $265 for online classes.
