The program consists of required core training courses and elective courses designed to allow students to determine which area of the HVACR industry they would like to specialize in.

Throughout training, students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate, thereby certifying, their skills by participating in nationally recognized tests which provide “Employment Ready” certifications. "Employment Ready" certifications confirm the student's grasp of the critical skills needed for entry level technicians in the HVACR industry.

Mountainland Technical College (Apprenticeship & Certificate Program)

Program Description

As an HVAC Apprentice, you will learn techniques required to install new equipment as well as skills and knowledge to repair and troubleshoot existing equipment. This program is designed with related theory and hands-on application. MTECH’s Apprenticeship programs are composed of two parts: (1) on-the-job training and (2) classroom instruction. The on-the-job training is provided by an outside sponsor (employer) who exposes the apprentice to practical applications in all areas of a chosen trade. The classroom-related instruction is an organized form of instruction, designed to provide the apprentice with knowledge of the theoretical and technical aspects of his or her trade. Classroom related instruction will be held at one of MTECH’s Campuses.

Davis Technical College

Program Description

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technicians are highly skilled at the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating and cooling systems around the world. Technicians will develop the cognitive ability to read schematic diagrams, blueprints, and complex instructions in order to properly install, troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of equipment. Technicians must demonstrate the safe use of hand and power tools, ladders, refrigerant gauges, and specific electronic meters. In this exciting field, students will practice on many types of systems ranging from small window units to commercial rooftop units. Program graduates can find employment with small residential heating and air conditioning shops, commercial repair and maintenance contractors, as well as large industrial firms throughout the country. Upon completion of the program, students will be qualified to take the EPA 608 Refrigerant Handler Certification Exam, Rocky Mountain Gas Association Exam, certified to use CSST natural gas tubing through TracPipe, and be well prepared to take the Industry Competency Exam (ICE) as well as other industry certifications.
