Program Description

This course addresses the engineering aspects of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems design. The focus is on mechanical systems for commercial buildings that include psychometrics; basic HVAC calculations; design condition determination; load estimating; duct and pipe sizing; HVAC systems; and HVAC equipment selection. The student performs system design on a commercial building in preparation for ARE 4720. Energy conservation, comfort condition, indoor air quality, and mechanical codes are introduced using ASHRAE standards and international codes.

Program Description

HEATING, VENTILATION & AIR CONDITIONING offers entry level training in residential and commercial heating, air conditioning, and refrigerant systems.  Students learn about refrigeration physics and the refrigeration cycle, combustion theory, oil and gas fuel systems, air distribution systems, air conditioning and heating systems, wiring diagrams, piping practices, soldering, brazing, systematic troubleshooting and basic electrical theory related to HVAC.

River Bend Career and Technical Center

Program Description

The Construction Technology/Residential Energy (CTRE) curriculum provides technical training in all aspects of residential construction, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and alternative energy. Building design, blueprint reading, estimating, safety on the work site, building codes, site work, foundations, stairs, timber framing, insulation envelopes, stress skin panels, roof systems, framing, and finish work are all part of the process. There is an emphasis on alternative, renewable energy sources (solar, wind, biomass) and the latest energy efficiency technologies and designs. Students will also be introduced to the operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Students will use acquired knowledge to design and build projects of various sizes and complexity.
