Program Description

The Air Conditioning and Heating Technology diploma program is an excellent choice for students desiring to work in residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). Students gain practical knowledge and experience in the classroom and shop using modern test equipment and tools used in the HVAC industry. Students are trained by seasoned HVAC technicians that bring with them years of experience and a variety of industry-related certifications. This program prepares graduates for entry-level employment in the HVAC industry and is an excellent preparation tool for taking the HVAC Excellence or other industry-related certification exams. Students will have the opportunity to obtain certification in Section 608 EPA and R410A Refrigerant Safety and Handling.

Program Description

Southside Virginia Community College’s HVACR program is comprised of two career studies certificates. The HVAC Level I and Level II Career Studies Certificates will prepare students for entry-level employment in the HVACR industry as well as upskill current practitioners. With the primary goal of safety, students will gain the knowledge and demonstrate the skills necessary to contribute to the HVACR industry.

This program is designed to prepare students for careers in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related energy technologies industry. The curriculum blends "leading edge" theory with a large amount of practical, "hands on" experiences for the purpose of developing confident, professional technicians/installers. All classes completed for a certificate serve as building blocks for higher level certificates and/or a degree at CCBC.
