Program Description

This program teaches how to operate, manage, install and service HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) equipment. As an HVAC license is required for any technician who is involved in handling or purchasing refrigerants, students are motivated to complete the program and acquire additional school training in installation services. The US Environmental Protection Agency Exam covers three areas covered in the course, Servicing Small Appliances, Low-Pressure Refrigerants, and High-Pressure Refrigerants.

Our adult HVAC Technician program is designed to teach the basic elements of HVAC/R to help enable one to function in an entry-level position in the field. Our program involves a variety of learning experiences from classroom lectures to an extensive “hands-on” learning environment.

Ben Franklin Career Center

Program Description

This is a two year, half-day program for high school students.

It is designed to provide knowledge and skills required of persons employed in the air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, and sheet metal business and industries. Students completing the program will develop the skills necessary for entry level employment in the area of residential, commercial and industrial air conditioning, heating and refrigeration installation, maintenance and service.

Planned lecture and laboratory experiences parallel those activities preformed by service technicians in the field and include installing and checking equipment, servicing and replacing major and minor components, and troubleshooting and analysis of individual units and complete systems.

James Rumsey Technical Institute

Graduates of the HVAC program are qualified for entry into the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration installation, service, and maintenance fields. This vast industry offers a diverse selection of career opportunities.

The major units of study explored in this course focus on building a knowledge base and technical skills in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. Students have the opportunity to earn NCCER certification for each skill set mastered. In addition students gain the skills necessary for developing a positive work ethic. The course is divided into 50% hands on and 50% classroom work.

Putnam Career & Technical Center

Program Description

The HVAC program introduces students to the knowledge base and technical skills of the HVAC industry including certified curriculum taught throughout eight courses.

AM courses are offered to first year students HVAC 1 – HVAC IV, which is nationally certified curriculum adopted by the WV Department of Education through NCCER (National Center for Construction of Education Research). PM course are mainly offered to second year students as elective courses. This includes basic control circuits, heating system, commercial air condition and air conditioning applications.
